I’m Mike Gil (a.k.a. Mikey G), a Bachata dancer based out of New York City - this is my story.

Born & raised in New York City, I was always surrounded by the latin sounds of Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Reggaeton among others. Intrigued by the diverse dance styles, I decided to join a latin dance school during my senior year of college. Immediately, my obsession with Bachata grew and soon after I found myself in the school’s amatuer Bachata team. Not long after, some colleagues and I decided to embark on our own journey and started a Bachata team that later became known as Pura Vida Dance Company.

Pura Vida grew to be one of New York’s biggest and longest tenured Bachata teams during its’ run. With over a dozen choreographies, 100+ performers and countless students, we were a dance team that became family. As a reflection of our success, we were graciously given opportunities to teach, perform and travel at many events throughout the US, Canada & Europe. As director, I learned how to be an effective, compassionate leader that lead to me discovering a passion for inspiring others. It was here where I got my first taste in event hosting when I started the Pura Vida Socials.

Presently, I host and manage various social events in New York and nearby states including: New Jersey, Boston & Philly. Creator of Bachata Bash & Bachateras in The City (BITC) mini weekenders, Passion Thursdays at Solas and co-director of the New Jersey Bachata Festival I aim to bring a positive influence to the ever-growing Bachata dance scene. I aspire to inspire, for bringing others happiness is my happiness.

I’ve recently embarked on new partnerships with Annette Gonzalez & Ana Sofia Dallal.

Annette Gonzalez, originally from San Antonio, Texas moved to New York in 2017 and soon after joined Karel Flores NYC Pro team. Former director of San Antonio Touch, she brings a diverse technical background and has quickly become one of NYC’s “favorite follows”.

Ana Sofia Dallal, born & raised in Guadalajara, Mexico comes from a strong background in ballet & musical theatre. Former dancer of Delia Madera’s Zuberi, this talented woman will dissect the fundamentals in such a way that’ll make you fall in love with Bachata all over again!

I’m excited to start this new venture with these 2 ladies - learn more in the TEAM section!

Thank you for checking out my site. I look forward to working together!

 Much love,

- Mikey G (Bay-Bay)
